CELPIP

This CELPIP (Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program) course has been designed to prepare students to reach their target scores on the exam. You will receive personalized instruction and view the format before taking the test. The four skill modules are: Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing.

Course Objectives:

  • You will learn how to write impressive essays in the English language
  • You will be exposed to the CELPIP exam every week and become very familiar with it
  • You will be proficient in all four components of the CELPIP Test (Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing)
  • All grammatical mistakes will be highlighted, corrected and explained
  • You will be evaluated by our CELPIP instructors to determine if you are ready to take the exam
  • You will learn how to scan and skim the exam texts to maximize your time during the exam
  • You will enter your CELPIP Exam with confidence
  • You will learn how to correctly answer all questions on the exam

IELTS

Prepare for the official IELTS Test (The International English Language Testing System) in this focused intensive preparation program. IELTS is a highly dependable, practical and valid English language assessment available throughout the world. It is used by individuals who are seeking international education and professional recognition. It is benchmarked to international standards and global mobility.

Course Objectives: This course prepares high Intermediate to Advanced level students for the IELTS.

  • Practice reading a variety of text types. The reading tasks include skimming for gist, scanning for details, understanding text structure/cohesion, deducing meaning from context and interpreting inference, attitude and style, completing notes, sentences, tables, summaries, diagrams or flow charts
  • Practice writing formal reports of 150 words in length based on interpretive information of data displayed in bar charts, line graphs, tables; the stages of a particular process or procedure; and/or an event/series of events. Essays of 250 words in length to present/discuss opinions, solutions to problems, arguments including evidence
  • Practice different language tasks-types through a variety of activities, lectures, role-play, games and assignments

TOEFL

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is a required exam for non-native English speakers who wish to study at colleges or universities where instruction is in English. Students will familiarize themselves with the TOFEL test structure and learn important test taking strategies. We will focus on the four parts of the exam (Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing) in order to review and increase understanding in these main areas.

Course Objectives:

  • Review and practice skills for the sections of the TOEFL exam
  • Learn relevant vocabulary that will appear on the TOEFL exam
  • Review test-taking strategies and tips for the TOEFL exam
  • Complete sections from a practice TOEFL exam to see how you have improved and where improvement is required
